SCOPE Tip of the Week

Gambling Addiction

Gambling can be fun: playing scratch tickets, locking in those final four brackets, or choosing a number on the roulette wheel and hoping for a lucky spin. Gambling addiction can also spin out of control and result in students spending far more money then they have. Gambling stops being fun when someone loses their tuition check to an online poker site or the local sports bookie comes to the residence hall to collect payment.

Gambling addiction, like other forms of addiction, becomes a problem when the behavior gets in the way of the student being involved socially, maintaining responsibilities or successful in academics.

For more on gambling addiction, please view our full Tip of the Week here.
